Proper Disposal of Hazardous Materials
Unfortunately, not all trash is safe to be disposed of in your curb-it.  In order to prevent injuries to the public or WMU employees and protect our environment, we offer the follwing information regarding the proper disposal methods for various hazardous materials:
Used Paint

Add a thickener such as sand, dirt, or cat litter to the paint and allow it to solidify.  Once solid, leave the lid off and dispose of in your curb-it.  Do no put used paint in your curb-it until it is solid.

Sharps (syringes, needles, lancets, etc.)

Use a sharps container and dispose of at a facility that takes Medical Waste.

NEVER place sharps lossely in your curb-it or trash bags.

Used Motor Oil

Drain the used oil into an unbreakable, sealable container (milk jug, etc.)  Do not use a container that has held household chemicals.  Take the used oil to a collection center (Advanced Auto Parts, 1911 Bypass Road) for proper disposal.

If you are in doubt as to the proper disposal method for any household waste, please contact the solid waste department at (859) 744-1170.
